As with dog breedz, the ideals for a lepitaur breed might change as breeders develop their lines. When a request is made to update a standard, the key rule is that the breed must maintain the ideals of the original breed. If the most important factor for a breed is that it be solid white, a spotted or black variation likely will not ever be accepted for full points. Here are the rules for updating a standard: - Standards may be changed only with the consent of the person who originally developed the breed! (And that person should feel no pressure to okay variations that go against their original concept.)
- No outcrosses are permitted. In other words, the new standards must reflect only what can be bred from the original foundation stock.
- Previously accepted colors may not become faulted or DQ'd
- "Half points" varieties may be changed to full points.
- "No points" varieties (ie new color mutations) may be added as half or full points.
